Rose season has arrived in Adelaide, and I’m absolutely buzzing! It’s hands-down the best time of year—well, at least for me it is 😂 I’m itching to visit the rose garden at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, but truth be told, my own garden is about to put on quite the show. The roses are heavy with voluptuous buds, some already bursting through - their petals like little fireworks. I’m already wondering... how many photos will I take this year?

Speaking of photos, I recently treated myself to a bunch of stunning red waratah flowers. Day one: 150 photos. Yep, I went all in—posing them in different settings, playing with lighting, and trying out every angle imaginable. So far, I’ve shortlisted two that might one day become paintings. There are definitely more gems in the batch, but I like to let them simmer. When I’m not painting, I love diving into my photo references and dreaming up new compositions.

I’ve finally added some fresh pieces to my website Shop and Gallery! I realised I’d been a bit slack—or maybe just distracted—and hadn’t uploaded anything new for a while. So, here’s a little sneak peek - take a scroll through this gallery of what’s just landed...

Floral Frenzy on the Easel

Lately, the creative energy has been flowing more freely. I suspect it’s the anticipation of all the floral magic—roses, peonies, dahlias, hydrangeas (and more!)—that are either blooming or about to burst into colour. On the easel right now: two dahlia paintings featuring my favourites, Café au Lait and Carlos Watermelon. Their wild petals and colour shifts are just irresistible. There’s also a sweet little hydrangea drawn up and waiting for its turn in the spotlight, plus the usual lineup of works-in-progress patiently awaiting their final touches. Stay tuned—I’ll be sharing more as they come to life!

Raincoats, Canvases & Sunshine: Walkerville Art Show Week!

In other news, the Walkerville Art Show is happening this week, and it’s shaping up to be a fantastic display of paintings and sculptures. I’ve submitted five of my own pieces for exhibition. Delivery day was a soggy affair—picture a parade of artists in raincoats, clutching their canvases like precious cargo. And of course, today it’s sunny and warm. Classic Adelaide! If you’re local, I highly recommend popping in for a visit (or check out this link).
